Database Administrator (DBA)
DUE TO EXPANSION OF SERVICES, NEW CLIENTS AND CHALLENGES we are looking for an experienced and talented Database Administrator (DBA) to take ownership of the support and growth of our database infrastructure. We have significant (and growing) data volumes and currently employ a combination of MySQL, Postgres, Infobright and Hive technologies. We have terabytes of new data every day and are constantly seeking new ways to store, analyse and exploit it so a flexible approach and love for new challenges is a must. The platform supports both OLTP and BI workloads and paying attention to these and their distinct needs is a current major initiative. We don’t just want someone who keeps things running but seek a DBA with a flair for innovation, who can keep one eye on how to make things significantly better and plan for the future while maintaining a stellar uptime record for the current systems.
Responsibilities
• Maintenance of the existing database clusters
• Identify optimization opportunities, either at a database, broader system or software level
• Plan and implement ways to keep the databases performant through significant growth in data volumes
• Help define and perform proof of concept and implementation of new data architectures
• Work with the development teams to ensure software is built to best use the databases
Desired skills & Experience
• 3+ years of DBA experience in a similar role supporting mission-critical databases
• Deep MySQL experience including replication, troubleshooting and performance optimization
• Experience in building and managing high-availability MySQL deployments
• Extensive experience in schema design and optimization
• Experience with a columnar data warehouse (we use Infobright) would be a strong advantage
• Knowledge of broader issues around NoSQL stores and how they can integrate with a RDBMS would be an advantage
• Ideally from a software development background
• A demonstrated willingness to challenge existing technical choices and approaches; able to challenge the development team when required
• Understanding of the online advertising technology landscape is useful but not essential
• Encourages knowledge sharing and best practice across the technical team
