Recent work experience requirement Certified copies of your work references for any positions held during the relevant period. Your work experience references must:· be written on the official letterhead of the company or government department providing the reference · the letterhead should indicate clearly the full address of the company and any telephone, fax numbers, email and website addresses · the name and position of the person authorised to sign the employment reference should be typed or stamped below that person's signature – a reference with an illegible signature will not be accepted · the direct contact number of the person writing the reference should be included in the letter · the letter should indicate the exact period of employment, including whether permanent or temporary, full or part-time, position/s held, the main five (5) duties undertaken, and the salary earned – positions should not be described by generic titles (eg research officer, public servant) but according to the nature of the duties undertaken (eg research chemist, accounts clerk) ·
a payslip from your current employment should also be included – this is especially important for applicants working in government departments.

RESUME GUIDELINES
To assist you in writing a resume the SMP has designed a template to help you format your resume. The resume template can be found through the following link:

Step 1. Contact Details
Please provide your most current contact details.
This includes home phone, mobile phone and work phone (if applicable). We would also advise having an answering service for the periods when you are unable to answer your phone. Also include your current home address and email address.
You do not need to include information such as characteristics.
Step 2. Experience
Your employment history should be directly relevant to the occupation under which you are applying for state sponsorship. You should list the skills and experience that you gained in this position as well as your responsibilities and achievements. Start with your most recent employment and work backward to your first, relevant job.
If you have a technical job, in industries such as information technology, engineering, or a trade, you may wish to include a summary of your skills at this point. The summary should detail your areas of expertise, with further details contained below.
Title
Insert the name of the position you held, for example, ‘Manager’.
Date
Insert the date you started and finished in this position.
Organisation/Company name
Include the name of the company and a brief description of what the company does.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities you list will provide us with information about your role in the company and the skills that you have. You can include the following:
· What did your job/work include day to day?
· Did you work as part of a team or independently?
· Did you supervise staff?
· Did you have to use any computer software or manual skills?
· Did you work with external service providers or customers/clients?
· Did you have to liaise with management?
· Did you have to provide information to internal or external people?
· Did you have to look after machinery, information or administration?
· Did you have to plan work schedules and procedures?
· List any other responsibilities relevant to the job role.
Achievements
The achievements you list will demonstrate your skills and strengths in previous positions. Achievements can be work performance that achieved a successful outcome or accomplishments such as awards, completion of training or promotions. You can include the following:
· Saving your company money, for example, by reorganising a system that reduced labour costs
· Improving systems or processes such as creating a procedure that saved time or increased productivity
· Taking on extra responsibilities in the workplace, for example, coordinating meetings
· Increasing customer satisfaction
· Meeting or exceeding targets
· Solving problems or handling a difficult situation in your workplace
· Promotions or awards received for goals achieved.
Step 3. Education
List your educational qualifications and any skills training relevant to the type of jobs you will apply for. You can also include in this section information regarding your knowledge of computer programs, your trade skills or language skills. Please start with your most recent qualification or certificate and work backward to your first relevant qualification.
Qualification
Include the name of the school or institute where your qualification or certificate was attained. Also include the completion date and level completed for example - certificate, diploma or degree.
For example:
1998-1999 Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University Multi-Media (Diploma), completed December 1998.
IT Skills
List any computer training you have completed as well as computer programs that you have used in your workplace.
Trade Skills
List any trade certificates you may have or manual labour licenses, for example, a Mechanic trade certificate or fork lift license.
Language Skills
If you have any knowledge of another language you could also list them here.
Step 4. Referees
Include the name of at least one referee and their contact details. Make sure that your referee is aware that they might be contacted. If they are from a previous workplace it is preferable that they were your supervisor or manager and not just a work colleague. Please include the name of your referee, the position they held, the organisation that they are from, as well as a phone number and email address.

English requirements for family members:
Members of your family, aged 18 years or over, who are included in your application must provide evidence of their current level of English.
Members of your family who have been assessed as not having functional English will be required to pay a second instalment visa application charge.
This payment will entitle them to English language tuition in Australia to achieve functional English language ability. Applicants who are required to pay this charge will receive information about the Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) and where they can receive tuition when their visa is granted.
