AUSTIN -- The Texas attorney general's office is suing a Hawaii man for allegedly sending hundreds of thousands of unsolicited e-mails from a Dallas server.
The lawsuit says Billy W. Williams of Kailua, Hawaii, sent the e-mails from January through December of last year. The lawsuit says Williams neither identified himself as the source nor identified the transmissions as commercial ads.
According to court filings, among the offers the e-mails promoted were mortgage refinancing, prescription drugs, anti-spyware software, extended vehicle warranties and online diplomas.
Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott accuses Williams of violating state and federal laws restricting unsolicited e-mails.
Violations are punishable by up to $20,000 per violation.

Lijepa svotica, samo kad bi i naša vlada "mignula prstom" i uredila zakone da budu barem blizu ovoga. Iskoristio bih ovo da lagano iskritiziram Hrvatski Zakon o telekomunikacijama koji bi trebao pomoći u borbi protiv spama. Naravno, zakon je toliko nedorečen tj. neusklađen sa stvarnom situacijom da mi je muka. U praksi, neka velika korist od njega ne postoji niti pruža "oslonac" kako valja pa će problem spama, dakako, biti prisutan još neko vrijeme. Jer, ekipa iz saborskih fotelja nema baš previše vremena/volje za tako nešto, ima i prečih stvari za njih (treba urediti zakone da bi što manje radili i što više love strpali u đžep).
