Web Designers wanted for full time position in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Join Booking.com - world #1 online hotel reservations agency (by room nights sold) and become part of 3500+ employees working from 60+ offices worldwide. This position is based in our headquarters in the center of Amsterdam (Rembrandt square), where you would be working in dynamic international environment with 220+ IT staff (designers, developers, network/system/DB administrators ...).
While you will be learning new skills as part of everyday work without a doubt, you will also be able to attend different trainings and workshops - which are also nice way to get to know other Booking.com employees from all over the world.
Because it takes hard work to be best in the world - we make sure we recharge by partying even harder! Every last Friday of the month we have "Freaky Friday" where all our Amsterdam employees (several hundreds including IT, translators, content, finance, customer support ...) gather in two adjacent pubs (we can't fit into one anymore) to enjoy company paid drinks and snacks ;) And of course we have other bigger parties a couple of times per year - like Christmas party when we fly in employees from around the world to join us in Amsterdam!
Job Description:
As a Web Designer you will have graphically strong web design skills, and a good technical understanding of web page creation. In this role you will be involved in the rapid development and enhancement of Booking.com. With your knowledge of user experience in a commercial environment, you will work closely with Senior Designers, Developers and Product Owners, developing ideas into mockups using Photoshop or Fireworks, and ideally you will also be involved in the implementation of HTML and CSS.
We make our decisions (including design) based on experiments and testing. Since we receive millions of visits to our website on a daily basis, we know instantly which experiments work and which don't by looking at how much our users like it!
Key responsibilities:
• Work together with colleagues of Design, Development and Marketing to improve usability
• Designing and developing the user interface of the Booking.com website with HTML/CSS
• Conduct experiments for improving conversion
• Create mock-ups and web pages
Skills:
• Strong sense for consistent design of user interfaces, usability and accessibility
• Strong attention to detail
• Familiarity with browser quirks and workarounds, cross-browser, HTML and CSS
• Knowledge of web standards for web development
• Able to work well independently and within a team
• You are an good communicator with a pragmatic and hands-on approach to business
• Confident working with version control systems
• Ability to code hand-crafted html
Experience:
• Expert mastery of cross-browser front-end technologies: HTML and CSS
• Experience in an e-commerce environment
• Experience with templating systems
• Experience with graphical software (e.g. Photoshop and/or Fireworks)
