SANTA CRUZ, Calif., Dec 19, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Deterministic Networks, Inc. today announced that Virtual Systems LLC a leading wireless Internet service provider (ISP) in Wisconsin, is successfully using its NetworkJustice FairShare software to improve customer service. Virtual Systems provides high-speed, wireless Internet services to businesses in an area of Eastern Wisconsin that is not served by high-speed, terrestrial Internet services. The company began using Deterministic's NetworkJustice FairShare software several months ago to fairly allocate bandwidth among its customers. NetworkJustice FairShare is the industry's first scalable Quality of Service (QoS) software that guarantees fairness among users and applications while strictly controlling available bandwidth.
Virtual Systems Chief Technology Officer Chad Austreng said, "We were able to install the NetworkJustice software quickly and began seeing the benefits immediately. It enables us to allocate bandwidth to our customers based on how much they pay for their Internet service. By ensuring fair bandwidth allocation, we are able to serve more customers and provide the highest possible performance to each customer."
Austreng added, "As a software-only product, NetworkJustice provides the flexibility to use the hardware that we prefer - in this case a Windows 2000 server. This is extremely valuable, as it eliminates the need for a second hardware device for the QoS software."
Virtual Systems (
http://www.virtualsystems.ws) is also one of Wisconsin's best-known Application Service Providers (ASP). Customers sign up for ASP services to allow Virtual Systems to serve as their outsourced information technology staff. Austreng noted that the ability to provide superior Internet services has helped Virtual Systems secure new customers for its ASP business.
"It is gratifying to see how our software is helping Virtual Systems satisfy customers and grow its business. This is an excellent example of how NetworkJustice FairShare can help optimize an entire wireless network, eliminate bandwidth hogging and ensure fairness," said Deterministic's President and CEO Steve Jackowski.
Background on NetworkJustice Products
While competing QoS products enable network operators to allocate bandwidth appropriate to specific applications, NetworkJustice FairShare guarantees fairness to large numbers of users and applications within each QoS policy.
NetworkJustice software products - combined with Deterministic's strategic consulting - enable ISPs to increase network capacities and expand their user base without changing the network infrastructure. These products are ideal for ISPs in the wireless, DSL, satellite and cable markets.
Deterministic's NetworkJustice products are already used by several ISPs and incorporated into the broadband VSAT networks of Gilat Satellite Networks. Gilat's VSAT products are used by StarBand Communications, America's first consumer two-way, high-speed satellite ISP.
