About Vast:
Vast is a Silicon-Valley based Internet Search company (see http://about.vast.com) that powers search experiences in Cars, Travel, and Real Estate for companies like Yahoo (travel.yahoo.com - search for vacation rentals) and AOL (usedcars.aol.com). The key engineering teams are all based in Belgrade, where the technology is developed.
About The Job:
Users do many things on our site, and we track it all (with appropriate respect for a user's privacy!). Every drill down, results page, every item people look at is logged. We use that information to generate our business reporting, help our advertisers with advice about how to merchandise, and improve our search results for other users. Reporting and analytics is at the core of what we do, and we're looking for a few good engineers who can figure out how to turn that mass of data into useful information. We work with a variety of tools, from basic (Linux, MySQL, Perl, PHP) to the cutting edge (Hadoop, HBase).
About You:
* Are you insatiably curious about why things are they way they are?
* Do you know enough basics about statistics to spot and analyze patterns?
* Are you unusually creative, motivated, and willing to work hard - in return for a great work environment and a chance to handle some of the most interesting problems on the Web today?
* Can you turn out high quality, well architected work - but on a tight schedule and with attention to elegance, beauty, and detail?

* Are you more interested in solving interesting problems than in specializing in one particular programming language?
