Dear EOL File Fetch Community,
As you know, for about the last two weeks, we have been having intermittent
problems with File Fetch. You, the File Fetch community have been
invaluable in helping us solve these problems, even though sometimes I know
you have had the feeling that the problems were getting worse. Indeed, for
the last two days, no files were transmitted, causing despair and rightly so
among our faithful members.
As you also know, the EOL File Fetch is a complex system which combines the
terrestrial network, the satellite network, clocking, fetching, etc.
In order for us to find the problems has been difficult, although your
input has been crucial.
I also know that many of you who are loyal Europe Online members did not
want to give us the feeling that you were complaining, which we appreciate,
but desperately needed !
We also tried as much as possible to update you on an on-going basis but the
updates may have been slow simply because we were working the problem and
did not yet have something to report.
Finally, after much searching, particularly in the last two days we found a
human error which resulted in the files not being transmitted.
We would like to apologize for this. This error has been corrected now, but
this does not mean that the File Fetch system is the way we would all like
it to be, because as you know, the problems started ten days ago and we may
have not yet gotten to the bottom of it.
In addition, it would seem that e-lerts are getting sent twice and that the
access to the europeonline dotnet page was slow. This is all inter-related
and we are only now addressing these problems after having figured out at
least the one human error problem related to the transmission or rather
non-transmission of the files.
Therefore, I would like to ask you for your patience as we go through the
paces to solve the problems. Having a feeling that we might need more time
to solve the problems, we had already added 1 GB to everyone's File Fetch
zone until 30 June. Many of you wrote back that you would not be able to
use this until that date.
As a result, we have now extended the use of this free additional 1 GB until
31 July.
Also, we have regularly been putting back the lost file fetch quotas to all
our members who had not received files and so we believe we are up to date
on this. Should this not be the case, please contact
customer.support@europeonline.net to have your quota re-instated.
We will try to give updates on a regular basis until everything is working
as we all desire and in the meantime, we thank you for your feedback being
sent to cj@europeonline.net, customer.support@europeonline.net, and
technical@europeonline.net.
With very kindest regards,
Candace Johnson
