Google Android telefon prikazan na CES 2008

Evo ga i prvi primerak telefona sa podrškom za Google Android. Telefon je prikazan na Consumer Electronic Show 2008

The China-based ODM-maker Wistron has unveiled its GW4 smartphone at the CES 2008 show. This is a candy bar phone with an integrated QWERTY-keyboard and a touch-sensitive display and powered by MontaVista Linux 2.6. The device is peculiar for the support of a new open platform Google Android. The GW4 version based on it will be released in March. Probably it will be the first Google Android smartphone and come out to the market under the brands of biggest vendors, says a Wistron spokesman. Those vendors will set the price of the product.

Wistron GW4 features modest specs, according to the company, this hints at Linux effectiveness. The current smartphone version works in GSM networks (tri-band for the US and tri-band for Europe and Asia). The 3G modification is expected late in 2008.

The specs of Wistron GW4:

Networks - GSM/GPRS (without EDGE)
Chipset - TI OMAP 1710 216 MHz CPU and 64 MB of memory
Display – 2.5” 320x240 pixels touchscreen
2-megapixel camera
Wi-Fi 802.11g
Built-in SIP VOIP-client
Opera browser
Vidgets, for example, weather forecast of share rating

Izgleda da će Google u saradnji sa firmom Dell ipak predstaviti vlastiti telefon na predstojećem Mobile World Congress...

Evo još novosti sa WMC-2008, izašao je novi Google Android SDK i može slobodno da se preuzme:

It brings a new User Interface, which now looks more iPhone-like, than Windows Mobile-ish, layout animations for applications, geo-coding support,which allows your current address to be translated into a co-ordinate, support for newer media codecs, such as OGG Vorbis, offering slightly better quality than the popular MP3 codec, and at a smaller file size. However the part of the platform in charge of its calling features hasn't change at all, which is, as the community claims, a serious letdown, since they are still unable to get some features of the Android work.

All developers out there don’t forget that Google's $10 million Challenge deadline is April 14. The grand prize, and runner up, will be announced on July 21st.
Also, here is something of note: LG’s Chang Ma, vice president for marketing strategy, said yesterday in an interview, which took place at the Mobile World Congress trade show, that it planned to release a phone, based on Google's Android platform, in late 2008/early 2009.

Biće vrlo portabilan, pa treba očekivati da će se moći kad sazri instalirati na veliki broj telefona. Na HTC će svakako biti portovan.

Jedini problem je sto je Android poceo da kasni, bice steta ako izgube buzz koji su stvorili.

The first of their Android-based handsets is expected to be the HTC Dream. The touchscreen market continues to grow at a fast rate, and this will only help HTC further in gaining more of the mobile phone marketshare. Their Windows Mobile-based Touch Diamond handset has been shipped to a significant number of network operators in many countries, so there's no reason why the first Android-based handsets shouldn't catch a number of operators attention too.
