Apple does not yet provide support for writing DL discs and has not included a DL-capable writer in any of its Macintoshes. However, Apple may be forced to include these soon as most new OEM writers are supporting both DVD-5 and DVD-9 formats.
DVD-9 discs are currently expensive compared to the pennies which DVD-R/+R 4.7GB discs can cost when bought in bulk (>50), but prices are expected to fall rapidly over the next 12 months.
Also from MacBidouille, an oddly-numbered Pioneer SuperDrive in some Power Mac G5 models is identified by the System Profiler as a Pioneer DVR-117D, which is probably simply a rebadged 107 delivered specifically to Apple.
