COVER - APPLICATION LETTER :
A cover letter is the first impression an employer has of you, you need to stimulate the reader to read your resume.
Your cover letter should demonstrate your understanding of the position and the organisation you have applied for and how your skills and experience match the position.
Purpose of a Cover Letter
A cover letter is a summary of the reasons why you are the best candidate for the position. Its purpose is to make the reader want to read more about you in your resume and to get you an interview. It can help answer three questions that are often on the mind of the employer:
- Can you do the the job?
show you have the right abilities, skills, knowledge and experience.
- Will you do the job?
show are you are very interested in the work itself and that you have the other attitudes necessary for success in the role and in the company.
- Will you fit in?
show how your values and goals match the company's values and goals. Your language and stories can also demonstrate how you might fit in with clients and co-workers.

Outline the skills (technical and social), experience, training and achievements that are relevant to the selection criteria or the job description.(Esential and Desirables criteria). These skills may have been gained through your education/course, your work experience and your extra curricula activities.
Tell them why you are the best fit for the company and how your skills will meet their needs. (Tip: you could summarise the 3 best things about you that make you most competitive for the job and how these things will allow you to make an impact/get results in the role.)
Thank them for considering your application, tell them that you have attached a copy of your resume, and when you would be available for an interview. Provide your contact details (Phone / Fax / Email)

Position Summary 1. Participation in the routine work for Haematology, including participation in out of hours, weekend, public holiday shifts and on call roster as indicated by the work roster. 2. Process routine and urgent specimens in an accurate and timely manner, and in accordance with the methods and protocols outlined in the Haematology manuals. 3. Perform allocated specific projects/assignments or other duties in the area of work. 4. Ensure that appropriate breaks are taken such that continuity of service is maintained. 5. Ensure that the appropriate corporate image is reflected to the SWAPS customer base by the Haematology section. 6. Conduct periodic audits of reagents and notify senior laboratory staff of low supplies of reagents and consumables. 7. Maintain equipment hardware and software in accordance with established guidelines. Report any instrument or equipment malfunctions immediately to senior laboratory staff and implement designated procedures to rectify the problem. 8. Keep the Senior Hospital Scientist in Charge advised of any problems or issues related to the day to day running of the laboratory. 9. Maintain and review the quality performance. 10. Ensure that the work environment and allocated staff observe OH&S requirements and are aware of OH&S policies. Report and correct immediately any unsafe or unhealthy practices. 11. Participate in staff training and continuing educational activities so that expertise and understanding of current and developing test areas is maintained. Ensure that your training record within Haematology is maintained in a current form. 12. Assist in the development and revision of appropriate policies and procedures in respect to the services provided by the Haematology section. 13. Make decisions consistent with your delegation limit in order that duties can be performed, and refer problems and issues to the Senior in Charge of Haematology Laboratory.
